Pre-travel Review: Brazil

Since we know that traveling for a wedding, especially to Brazil, is not your typical trip, we've gathered some travel reminders and useful tips for our three-day event. Just a reminder that we are always available to help you through the wedding group chat or via private message.


First, let's do a checklist for your trip to Brazil:

  • Physical credit card: Just in case, especially if you plan to rent a car.

  • Suit/dress and important items in your carry-on: Just in case your checked luggage gets lost.

  • E-sim: We highly recommend MOBIMATTER. It is one of the cheapest options and works great everywhere.

  • Travel insurance: We also recommend SwissCare it offers excellent coverage for great value.

  • Cash: Having some cash always comes in handy, but it's not mandatory.

  • A jacket: Remember it is winter in Brazil (and South America).

  • Physical vaccination certificate: We don't think they will ask for it in Brazil, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

  • Power bank: To charge your phone when you are out and about.

  • Personal medication: We hope you won't need it, but it's always best to have the basics with you.

  • Toiletries: It is not unusual for hotels in Brazil not to provide mini shampoos or lotions, so it's always good to have an emergency supply with you, especially your toothbrush, haha!

  • Sunscreen: Because yes, even though it's winter, we get a lot of sun in Latin America, amen!


Good to know...

  • Even if you have internet access on your phone, it’s always a good idea to download and use Google Maps in offline mode for the region you are visiting.

  • Along the same lines, download Google Translate and get the offline Portuguese package, even though we are usually very friendly and patient people!


Apps we use in Brazil:

  • Uber or 99: For getting around.

  • iFood or Rappi: For food delivery.


Emergency numbers in Brazil:

  • Police: 190

  • Ambulance: 192

  • Fire Department: 193


Useful Information:

  • Language: Portuguese is the official language.

  • Cards: Credit cards are accepted in most places, including contactless payments.

  • PIX: This is the most popular payment method in Brazil, but visitors usually cannot use it unless they have a Brazilian bank account.

  • Tipping: Tipping is optional, as many restaurants automatically include a 10% service charge.

  • Weather: The climate can vary greatly across Brazil; make sure to check the forecast for each specific destination.

  • Wi-Fi: Public Wi-Fi is widely available, but using a VPN on public networks is highly recommended.


⚠️ ATTENTION:

Brazil can be a dangerous country due to high rates of pickpocketing and theft, just like any other large city around the world. We highly recommend that you never walk around with high-value items in sight. Above all, avoid holding or flashing your phone out on the street, and if possible, never walk through poorly lit or deserted areas at night. Opt for an Uber or 99 instead. These are just preventive measures and, realistically, absolutely nothing will happen to you if you follow them!


Let's move on to the wedding checklist:

  • White clothes for the welcome party on Thursday.

  • Comfortable shoes for the wedding.

  • A comfortable outfit for the wedding, and if possible, a shawl, jacket, or something similar for the evening.

  • Comfortable clothes/outfit for Saturday's activity.

  • A towel for the boat trip.

  • A swimsuit for the boat trip.

  • Your stomach ready to eat well all weekend long!

  • An open heart to share and live this experience with us.
